Kim P. and others: interesting dialogue. Similar experience here,
when extension was largely eliminated from our mandate at the
University of Guelph. As the only academic in eastern Canada working
on grazing systems (until last fall, when Paul Peterson took a post
at McGill - praise the Lord!), I still had a lot of calls for
information. So, I started a consulting company (Grass Farming
Consultants) last year to allow me to justify my time in continuing to
respond to those calls. All net proceeds are donated to the Univ. of
Guelph in support of my own increasingly strapped grazing research
program. Producers know this. It has been interesting to learn that
the demand for pasture information (formerly free) is still strong
enough that at least some producers will pay for it. Ann
