FAO 50th ANNIVERSARY/WORLD FOOD SUMMIT

Sustainable Agriculture Association (WSAA) and The Forum
for African Voluntary Development Organizations (FAVDO) on:

Washington, DC (Dupont Circle Metro South Exit).

Charles Riemenschneider, Director of the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Liaison Office for
North America, will speak about global food and agriculture
problems and policies and activities planned for the 50th
Anniversary of FAO in Quebec in October, and the World Food
Summit in Rome, November 1996. He will also address changes
at FAO related to its new leadership and relationship with
non-governmental organizations (NGOs.) Goals of the upcoming
Global Assembly on Food Security in Quebec, planned to
complement the official commemoration of the 50th Anniversary,
will also be discussed by participants from the NGO International
Working Group.

Food producers, food security and sustainable agriculture
advocates from both developed and developing countries are
especially encouraged to consider attending the Global Assembly,
which will bring producers and advocates for food security from
all over the world to Quebec to urge and assist governments and
multilateral food agencies to share power and decision-making
with civil society in preparing for the crucial next 50 years.
