Program Specialist
Position:
Program Specialist for the Southern Region Sustainable Agriculture
Research and Education/Agriculture in Concert with the Environment
(SARE/ACE) Program. This is a full-time (100%) position located at
the Georgia Experiment Station in Griffin, GA. Position duration is
contingent with the availability of grant funds.
Qualifications:
M.S. in agriculturally related field required. Knowledgeable in
sustainable agriculture activities and field research. Strong
interpersonal, administrative and communications skills. Computer
literacy is essential (Internet, WordPerfect, Microsoft Access).
Job Description and Responsibilities:
The Program Specialist will assist with many of the daily operational
duties for the administration and coordination of the SARE/ACE
program. The Program Specialist will have primary responsibility for
the administration of the Producer Grants program and will travel
throughout the Southern Region to review on-farm research activities
and to work closely with farmers and technical cooperators to ensure
that projects are technically sound. The Program Specialist will assist
other Host Consortium staff in coordinating subcontracts, meeting
national reporting requirements and ensuring that all financial
transactions are in accordance with Host Consortium and USDA
regulations. The Program Specialist will also work closely with the
Southern Region SARE/ACE Administrative Council to promote the
program to a diverse audience throughout the South.
About the SARE/ACE Program:
The mission of the Southern Region SARE/ACE program is to
promote and fund research and education activities that will increase
knowledge and extend information about sustainable agriculture
systems. This mission is accomplished by funding research projects
that investigate the scientific basis for sustainable agriculture,
education projects that expand and extend our knowledge of
sustainability to farmers, consumers researchers, educators and
policymakers; and producer grants that recognize that farmers are
innovators and repositories of knowledge about sustainable
agriculture. The SARE/ACE program is funded jointly by the US
Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency,
and is jointly managed by The University of Georgia and Fort Valley
State College. The Host Consortium office is located at the Georgia
Experiment Station in Griffin, which is approximately 30 miles south
of Atlanta, GA. The Southern Region includes Alabama, Arkansas,
Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina,
Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia
and the Virgin Islands.
Salary: $30,000 plus benefits
