Re: Farmers as a system resource

I chose to go into farming because we had a family farm that had been
leased out for 40 years.

I really tried. I spent most of my time for the last 34 years trying to
farm. When I was 17 my grandfather and other old timers told me I would
never make it, now I realize they were right. I was only able to make a
profit 3 or 4 years out of those 34. The years I made a profit, I
certainly did not make minimum wage. I think my best year I made $8,000.

Still, my son has returned to the ranch. Before I am done I hope we can
put together some kind of sustainable operation. One day economic
conditions will favor farming again. Will it take a famine?
