I am a Planning and Zoning Commissioner for the Village of Corrales, New
Mexico. Our farmland is fast disappearing. We are trying to find out what
communities around the country are doing to preserve agricultural land. We
are also interested in receiving copies of any state and local laws that
help preserve farmland and keep farming alive. We recognize that
preserving agricultural land is not enough. Farming needs to be financially
viable, particularly for small farmers. We are considering setting up a
co-op to encourage part-time farming as well as to help our few remaining
full-time farmers. If you have any examples (hopefully positive), and any
legislation, policy discussions, reports, etc. that you think might be of
use to us, please let me know. As we proceed I will keep you informed as
to how we are doing.
Thanks so much.
