I just cut my weeds down at the end of the year with a cutter Bar mower
and the weeds lay flat like a mulch. I do it every year and feel that
its sheet composting in a way. It feel natural and the ground seem rich
for it. In the winter it rains in So. Cal. and in summer its dry. I
water with drip so I just cut the weeds once or twice and the cutter bar
makes it lay flat . I feel it protect the earth from summer sun while
slowly turning back to earth. I like weeds. We got a good crop this
year. Its easy enough and I don't have to turn the piles. The life in the
soil seems to just suck up the weeds over time and by next winter I'm
ready to grow some more.
Its seems to be working. The trees seem to doing ok. The weeds seem to
have helped hold the earth together and we have had lots of rain this year.
The only thing that goes
out is a little fruit. Every thing else goes right back to earth from
wence it came. Boy I like my sickle bar mower the weeds fall no matter
how big in fact the taller it grows the more I like it. Thats the reason
I sheet compost and don't make piles. The weeds are just free mulch.
Substainable thats the name of the game. I use to worry about weeds but
I'm to old to worry now why fight nature.
