Gillian,
Dick Richardson mentioned a second book about Barbara McClintock. It
may be that the one he had in mind was **A Feel for the Organism.**
Another woman who had a great impact on agriculture in the United
States and Canada especially was Rachel Carson. Her book **Silent
Spring** had a tremendous effect on the way we think about the costs of
our food production.
