Those of you in the Upper Midwest of the U.S. might be interested in
an upcoming interim short course for those interested in learning
about the basics of management intensive rotational grazing for
ruminant animals in this part of the country.
The short course will be from March 13 to 17, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on
the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. It is sponsored by the
UW-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) and
invites faculty and farmers to discuss issues like basic fencing and
watering systems, pasture management, animal nutrition, and
economics.
CALS instructors are Dave Combs, Dept. of Dairy Science, Rick Klemme,
Dept. of Agricultural Economics and Director, Center for Integrated
Agricultural Systems, and Dan Undersander, Dept. of Agronomy.
The course will offer introductory information on management
intensive grazing; introduce students to farmer and UW experts on
the topic and sources of information; and acquaint participants with
the elements of an effective integrated grazing system. The course
fee of $125--$75 for students--includes registration and
instructional materials.
