Tory Shade's economics on apples and biscuits are quite interesting-

David Morris at the ILnst for Local Self Reliance gave an example here in
Minnesota when he held up a plastic wrapped tooth pick which was made in
Japan.

How he mused could a country like japan import wood and pretroeum to make
the tooth pick wrap it and ship it to Minnesota for a profit when Japan had
no wood or petroleum and it costs petroleum to im;port mfg and export to a
country with a surplus of wood and petrleum readily available- and aits
not the labor costs either
