Sustainable Agriculture/IPM Plant Pathology Position for
Specialty Crops -
The Department of Plant Pathology, North Carolina State
University, Raleigh, NC, has a tenure-track, 12-month position
available in the area of sustainable plant health management.
This Assistant Professor position is 75% extension and 25%
research. This individual must have a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology
and will be expected to develop a productive extension and
research program that focuses on the development of alternatives
to pesticides for management of soilborne or foliar pathogens on
high cash value fruit and vegetable crops. The individual will
be expected to develop a competitively funded program to study
unique agricultural production systems including no-till and
organic farming practices and evaluate their effect on soil and
microbial communities, and disease. This individual would be
expected to take a holistic view of the soil system and address
important and testable applied research hypotheses in actual
production systems in the field. Thus, a strong applied research
program would be expected. Studies in biointensive disease
management strategies that include modification of cultural
practices, use of soil amendments such as composts, living
mulches, biological control and host resistance would be
appropriate. The individual will be expected to develop
innovative methods of communication of research findings to
clientele via computer technology. The appointee will be
expected to collaborate with research faculty, extension
specialists and agents, growers commodity groups, and non-profit
