Dear All:
A consortium that consists of (i) public and private organizations
and (ii) the local government with the support of the European Union
is in the process of organizing the Center for Agricultural Development.
The Center will be located near Sparta in the southern
part of Greece, a historically agricultural area growing
citrus products as well as superior
quality garden produce. The Center aims among other things:
a. to support farmers in best evaluating their farmed soil and
matching it with the most appropriate use.
b. to provide examples of alternative products as well as farming
practices.
c. to educate - especially young - farmers on a continuous basis
about the possibilities that new technologies - together with
biotechnology - offer for optimal cultivation of the land.
Towards the accomplishment of the above goals the Center intends
to utilize the latest in high technology as well as recent advances
in other areas as e.g.: (a) agricultural economics, (b) marketing of
agricultural products, (c) management, and (d) education
To be able to accomplish all this we need help in the form of:
IDEAS on ways to proceed and goals to set
INFORMATION on appropriate technologies and functions
LINKS to similar or relevant institutions that could be supportive
of the effort described above, and
references to PEOPLE who have thought - and possibly written - about or
participated in similar projects.
