reduce pesticide use through policy reform, public education and
community organizing. NCAP is currently seeking a program associate for
its sustainable agriculture program. This associate will have primary
responsibility for the implementation of a project, currently focused in
southern Idaho, bringing consumers, food serving institutions, farmers and
agencies together to promote pesticide reduction. This on-going project
focuses consumer demand to encourage food serving institutions and food
processors to purchase sustainably grown food, thus expanding market

Eugene, OR, and involves frequent travel.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Organizing: Motivate local citizens to become involved with
food system issues in their community. Support existing organizations
and facilitate the formation of new groups and networks. Coordinate the
activities of community participants to maximize effectiveness and
ensure long-term development.

Outreach and Education: Educate and involve the wider community through
public events, public speaking and the distribution of informational
materials. Work with local and regional media to publicize project goals
and achievements.

Work with Institutional Participants: Enlist the cooperation of major food
purchasers, including for-profit and non-profit food serving institutions
and food processors, to modify purchasing criteria to promote pesticide
use reduction. Ensure that institutional participation is significant and
consistent with project goals.

General Project Management: Take primary responsibility for integrating
various elements of the project. Work with NCAP volunteers and staff
including another part-time agricultural program associate. Ensure that
deadlines are met and that resources are used responsibly and effectively.
Document and evaluate project activities in progress and year-end
reports.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The applicant should have experience and skills in project development
and implementation. Experience or training in one or more of the
following is essential: community or consumer organizing; working to
involve business participation in pollution prevention or sustainable
development; public education and outreach including interaction with the
media; sustainable agriculture research and education; marketing and
promotion of sustainable agricultural products.

STARTING DATA, SALARY AND BENEFITS:
This one-year position will start as soon as possible and is likely to
become permanent. Starting salary for 0.5 FTE (half-time) is $9,620 with
