Dear Colleague:

The Kerr Center for Sustainable Agriculture, Inc. in Poteau,
Oklahoma is seeking an individual with a strong background in
forages and soil science to support farmer and rancher cooperators,
and manage the Kerr Center's Rock Creek Sustainable Farm project.

The Kerr Center is a nonprofit organization that promotes, teaches
and practices agricultural methods that are environmentally
sensitive. The staff at the Kerr Center works with farmers and
ranchers, communities and organizations to achieve a way of life
that is profitable, and yet sustainable.

REQUIREMENTS:

BS or MS in Agronomy with experience in soils and southern forage
crops, such as bermudagrass, fescue and legumes.

Knowledge of native grasses.

Knowledge of basic horticulture desirable.

Supervisory skills and teamwork essential.

Manage a demonstration farm project.

Record-keeping of farm transactions.

Knowledge of basic livestock production.

Living on-site (housing provided)

Good communications skills and competency in writing and public
speaking.

Contribute to Kerr Center newsletter, pamphlets and fact sheets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Forage Specialist will monitor and recommend improvements for
pastures, field crops and natural acres at the various Kerr Center
sites. The person will work closely with other team members
including specialists trained in animal science, horticulture,
forestry and economics. A vital aspect of this position is to
design and implement field projects that demonstrate the benefits
for sustainable agricultural practices. The Forage Specialist will
be an important member of the farmer and rancher Consultation Team,
and manage a sustainable farm project. The farm project
responsibilities include the care and feeding of diversified
livestock, forage management, conducting farm tours, and compiling
a yearly report of farmer activities.
