Community Food Security Coalition's Fourth Annual Conference
A VISION FOR CHANGE: FOOD SECURITY IN THE NEW MILLENIUM
October 28-31, 2000
Santa Fe, NM
Meeting site
The conference will be held at the historic La Fonda Inn, situated right on
the main square in downtown Santa Fe. It is a vibrant landmark known for its
award-winning pueblo-style Spanish architecture and decor. It is a showcase
of the work of local artisans. Each room is uniquely decorated with
hand-painted wood furniture.
Saturday, October 28:
Rio Grande Food and Farm Trails
Saturday October 28 7:30 am to Sunday, October 29, 5 pm
Experience a fabulous two day autumn tour along the legendary Rio Grande
River in historic northern New Mexico.
SUNDAY OCTOBER 29
Agriculture and Urbanization in Albuquerque
7:30 am- 1:30 pm
This half day tour will provide a sample of the history of agriculture in
Albuquerque and a driving tour of the farmland in the middle Rio Grande
Valley.
Santa Fe Food, Community, and History
7:30 am to 1:30 pm
This tour will combine visits to a community farm and food bank with a
walking tour of downtown Santa Fe.

What has been the effect of the corporate food system on communities? The

possible in a market economy? A panel comprised of community activists,
farmers, and academics will explore these issues as well as lay out their
vision for change how the food system needs to change. They will describe the
positive community food security efforts happening in their communities as
the groundwork for that change.

All meals will showcase locally grown foods, obtained from local farmers and
suppliers. Tuesday lunch is on your own to allow you the opportunity to taste
the local cuisine from Santa Fe's renown restaurants.
Accomodations
Rooms are available at La Fonda Hotel Sunday through Tuesday nights at the
price of $90/single, $100/double.
Price
The registration fee for the conference is $150. Short courses are $35. The
Santa Fe field trip is $35, and the Albuquerque tour is $40. The Northern New
Mexico trip is $160. A late fee of $30 will be assessed for registrations
received after September 29. CFSC non-members add $25, which includes a one
year membership.
