Saneteers,
This growing season has been a difficult one for a few of us here in the Northwest. Two large commercial composting facilities have produced and sold compost contaminated with a broad-leaf herbicide which was not degraded in the composting process. Nurseries have lost stock and reputation, gardeners and small-scale farmers have lost crops. There is no doubt that the problem is an herbicide. We believe it may be clopyralid but we are not sure and testing is continuing.
We have been handling this as a local problem specific to this season and area but I am wondering if, perhaps, it is more widespread. Has this problem been reported in your area?
Thanks,
Peggy Adams
