Hello!
I have had so many wonderful answers from everybody out there in the past
that I am turning to you now when i am in a more desperate situation. (
thank you all for your previous help and advice!)
I have a bachelor's in earth systems from stanford and after a few years
of working in agriculture, I'm planning to start a master's program at
Wageningen University in the Netherlands this fall in Ecological
Agriculture. It was pretty hard to find funding as an American trying to
study outside of the US but I thought I had done it when I got a
fulbright/netherlands-america foundation grant. However, even though I had
thought they covered all necessary costs, they are now declining to pay my
tuition fees. Wageningen really seems like a great program. Y'all can check
them out at:
or for the ecological agriculture department:

The focus is on sustainable, ecological farming, mixed farming systems, farm
design, local resource use, technology appropriate systems and taking a hard
look at social, environmental and economic consequences of the ways we
choose to farm. Any way, the reason I am asking for any suggestions anyone
has is that I, frankly, do not have the money to pay the tuition fees up
front. (It's pretty much a little less than the equivalent of 4 semesters
of graduate school at a public university in the US for a 17 month
straight-through course.) I'm trying all the avenues I can think of, but so
far have run into many a brick wall, there don't seems to be any research or
teaching assistanceships at the university and the US dept. of Educ. has
nothing to offer, i'm not at all sure the netherlands will allow me to work
while i'm there and i don't know if i could make enough to pay the fees.
Does anyone know of any schools/research institutes/ foundations etc. that
would be willing to help me fund the cost of the program in exchange for
research for their projects? I am willing to adapt to current programs or
take on any new projects that someone has been trying to get done. I'd be
very happy to work out any kind of arrangement. There are alot of great
resources, people and otherwise, at Wageningen and access to all kinds of
international cooperation.
Please, if anyone knows of anyone who could help or point me in a good
direction, I would appreciate it beyond your belief.
Thank you,
Jane Shaw
