High Mineral Soils

The Firman Bear report did NOT compare organically vs.
>inorganically grown foods. It compared foods grown on what he called
>"mineral" soils (high in minerals) and soils not so high.

This brings up something I have been thinking about. What are people's
thoughts about the work of Albrecht from Missouri who did work on the
mineral content (optimal) of a soil. As I understand it he stripped all
the cations from a soil and the added back various ratios of cations to
determine the most desirable mix for a soil.

When I asked about it at the university extension office, they were not
familar with his work. I have applied a tidbit I got from a Neil Kinsey
book and added gypsum to the silty clay loam soil in my garden. It has
made a noticeable difference in the hardness of the soil esp. when dry so I
want to continue with these soil additions.

It seems that at least on the small scale of a 1/2 acre garden, one should
be able to make additions to adjust the particle size and chemical
composition etc. to give the soil more desirable characteristics.
