Chair in Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture

The Centre for Studies in Agriculture Law and the Environment (CSALE)
at the University of Saskatchewan seeks to fill the Research Chair for
Sustainable Agriculture for a 12 to 24 month term.

The Research Chair was established in 1997 in CSALE, the Centre for
Studies in Agricultural Law and Environment, as a result of funding
provided by the Saskatchewan Agri-Food Innovation Fund (AFIF). The
overall goal of the research program is to create and disseminate
knowledge that will enable more economically and environmentally
sustainable farming systems.

We are seeking someone who can help lead a broadly based research
effort to address important issues of sustainability and communicate
results of this effort to policy makers and the public at large.

More specifically, the objectives of the Chair will be: 1) To develop
or adopt reliable procedures for evaluating the sustainability of crop
and livestock production systems in Saskatchewan, 2) To use these
procedures to evaluate the sustainability of the systems and to
develop recommendations for improved land management and
sustainability, and 3) To communicate the recommendations to all
concerned individuals, groups and agencies.

The Chair holder will work within the College of Agriculture and will
normally serve a one or two year term. The chair holder will be
provided an annual research budget and salary commensurate with
qualifications and requirements. The research program of the chair
will be approved each year by a steering committee made up of
producers, government, and university representatives. The steering
committee has indicated a current interest in research and extension
activities to create greater awareness and understanding of the
linkage of net greenhouse emissions and sustainable farming systems.

The chair holder is expected to hold an earned doctorate in an
agricultural or closely related field. Candidates will be selected on
the basis of qualifications and the proposed area of research.

If you would like accept the challenge to take on this exciting
opportunity we welcome your application. If you know of someone who
might be interested, please pass this invitation to apply on to them.

Applications should be in writing and will include a curriculum vitae
and a brief description of the proposed research program. Inquiries
and applications should be directed to:
