Hi!
Just wondering, who is your target audience - "conventional" producers or
"the choir"? Is your audience local or are you targeting anybody who wants
to drive in from where ever?
Titles can make a big difference in who they attract (also where and how the
program is marketed). Your "economically viable" sounds pretty important to
me, regardless of what else you focus on.
I've seen farmers motivated by several things when it comes to attending a
conference (your California growers may be different - so adjust based on
what you know about your audience). I'm sure others can add other comments
too.
1. If already sustainable growers, they like going to a place where they'll
find acceptance/support from like-minded folks.
2. For any kind of farmer - what'll make money (or save money)?
3. For either sustainable or conventional producers, the innovative ones
want to know "what's new".
4. For any kind of farmer it's who else is going to be there - as they will
probably learn as much from each other during the breaks as they will from
the presenters in the sessions! <grin> This can be especially important for
those who have been sustainable for any stretch of time because they get so
they've "heard it all" on the *basics* and are looking for in depth info
that will make the ocassion of more benefit than just a social get together.
Is what you're offering based on expresed needs from the growers or what you
think they need to know?
You might use a short "handle" to make the program easy to refer to, with a
subtitle to capture more of what you want to convey.
Finally, here in the Missouri "forum" would sound pretty academic. Maybe
it's more common for grower meetings in California, so has different
connotations. Are you going to be presenting papers or talking nitty-gitty
"how-to"? Are the presenters professors or other growers sharing their
experiences? Which are the growers looking for?
Just some thoughts.
