I think that you are a bit overconcerned. I agree that we should be vigilant
in our food awareness and food safety but don't manufacture a problem where
one does not exist. I grant you that many farm animals die from undiagnosed
causes but that is mostly because no autopsy is performed. If a vet is
called and has any concerns he would do a postmortem. Large breeders,
dairies, etc., as usually pretty up on what is happening to their animals and
if BSE had broken out in the USA we would probably know it by now. "Downer"
is not a BSE description.
Benzene and irradiation are new connections to me.
