I guess it must be something in the air, flame wars are popping up all over
the net here lately. Before it seems to happen around the fall holidays
but I guess there is a summer analogue.
Now for a story.
When I worked in industry in the city, there were a couple of "control"
mechanisms that the boss used to keep the workers under his thumb.
Some were structural like hiring mostly people who had as many of the
following characteristics as possible.
a. married
b. had children, the more the better
c. just purchased a car on time
d. just purchased a house (vacation house) with a big mortage
Other tactics were more of a "psychological operations" nature.
a. snitches
b. preferential treatment of "pet" employees
c. promote divisions along ethnic or other lines.
This last point is what this list is doing to itselves. Dennis A and
others like this Gordon joker are laughing their asses off right now
because they can promote division and flame wars in the opposite camp with
a snot-nosed article here and a mean comment there.
Don't fall for it! Sure people have different views about organic and
sustainable ag and the intersection of these two circles as mentioned in an
earlier post. Messrs. Groff and London have a lot more in common than one
might think from the comments seen here lately.
The biggest "tenant of faith" I remember growing up with parents who were
organic gardeners is "to build the soil". On that most important count,
both organic and Steve's method increases the organic matter and tilth of
the soil.
Build on your similarites, please don't dwell on your differences. Why
don't you guys trade visits to each others operations? I would love to see
a synthesis of organic and cover cropping agriculture that could be applied
to large scale ag and did not have to rely on either herbicides or
cultivation.
