From an outsider observing at a distance: Perhaps, the USDA standards
should only refer to "USDA-organic" or "USDA-certified organic" rather
than simply "organic". Then the USDA can impose all the requirements
it cares to impose on farmers who want to "USDA-certified organic"
label. Then people like Sal, who may not want the label anyway, won't
be affected.
Actually, a much better approach is to require those who use chemicals
to label their products as to what chemicals were used. Obviously a
pipedream under the present context of govt bias for chemical-based
megafarms.
