SHORT-TERM OVERSEAS OPPORTUNITIES - SOUTH AFRICA
The CSREES International Programs office is seeking several university
specialists to serve on short-term assignments in South Africa in July or
August 2000. The goal of the South African Agribusiness/Extension
Development Project is to develop institutional and human resources to
support the widespread emergence of small-scale farmers (primarily women)
and to stimulate economic growth and development in rural areas. We are
seeking the following university specialists: Farm Management Specialist,
Agricultural Marketing Specialist, Agricultural Extension Specialist, and
Post Harvest Handling/Storage Specialist. These specialists and the project
coordinator will develop a Train-the-Trainer program that will enable South
African agricultural extension agents to train small-scale farmers in
various areas. Previous training experience is required. Experience in the
region is desirable but not required. CSREES will reimburse universities
for salary and benefits for those selected to work on this project. Travel
and in-country costs such as lodging and per diem will also be covered.
