ORGANIC RESEARCH GRANT DEADLINE APPROACHES
The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) invites applications for
research grants of up to $10,000 for consideration in its fall funding cycle.
Farmers are particularly encouraged to apply. The deadline for applications is
July 15, 2000.
OFRF is dedicated to fostering the improvement and widespread adoption
of organic farming practices. Toward this end, OFRF awards grants twice a year
to fund organic farming research and education efforts across North America.
Since 1990, OFRF has awarded over $700,000 in support of 124 projects. The
Board plans to disburse another $80,000 this fall.
“Farmer research and innovation is the backbone of the success of
organic agriculture,” said OFRF technical program coordinator Jane Sooby. Sooby
is available to work with farmers interested in doing on-farm research and
applying for grants. She has recently written an on-farm research guide that
gives an overview of the research process. The guide is accessible through
OFRF’s website (under “research program”) or can be ordered, free of charge, by
calling the OFRF office.
Contact OFRF for the guidelines for applications, the on-farm research
guide, and/or a list of previously funded projects. Contact Sooby directly for
assistance in planning a research project or writing an application. Organic
