Bonus question for the day-Active Ingredients

Imagine that a person wanted to do comparative testing of the biological
effects of the isolated "active" ingredient of a commercial pesticide
side by side with the same amount in the commercially available product,
which would of course include all of the other things which are not
known as legally "active."

Do you suppose that this person might have a hard time getting the pure
active ingredients? Any suggestions on an approach? Naturally one
would first invite the manufacturer to provide the product, but what if
they declined?

All creative thoughts appreciated...
