The magazine article I saw said that _olive oil_ was used with success. I
have no idea whether BT/horticultural oil combination would have any
effect or not but I wouldn't try it myself.

Whole Foods has a house brand called 365 Everyday and they offer what I
consider a premium extra virgin olive oil for $6 per liter. If the quality
of oil used makes any difference I am sure this brand would produce goos
results and it is certainly cost-effective (you can buy it in big metal
cans for a cheaper per-liter price).
