Job Announcement:

Regional Farm and Food Project
148 Central Avenue, 2nd Floor
Albany, NY 12206
518-426-9331 or 427-6537

Part-time Coordinator-- Linking Children with Agriculture: Promoting
Community Educational Farming in the Hudson Valley

The Coordinator will organize and lead a task force primarily based in
Albany, Columbia, Greene, and Rensselaer Counties.

Objectives of the task force:

1) Conduct a needs assessment of interested stakeholders, including
farmers, educators and schools, land conservancies, youth programs, and
local governments.

2) Organize educational programs (i.e. workshops, field trips, and
mentoring) to assist farmers, teachers, and other community members in
developing effective farm-based experiential learning programs for children
and youth.

3) Explore possible partnerships and sites for establishing publicly owned
or managed community educational farms in the region.

The coordinator will also seek additional funding to ensure the
continuation of this project and possibly to expand staffing of the
project. Renewal of the contract will be contingent on funding.

The position requires much networking, volunteer recruitment, and
resourcefulness. The sponsoring organization has assembled a small network
of resource people and organizations to assist in project start-up.

Qualifications:
1) Demonstrated ability to work independently, especially in project
development and in organizing, managing, and motivating groups.
2) Interest and enthusiasm for experiential education for children in the
context of agriculture.
3) Background in agriculture, education, environmental education, or
related fields a plus.
4) Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills.
5) Grantwriting interest and ability desirable.
Media relations and outreach skills and experience very useful.
A minimum of one-year commitment, with two to three-year commitment
preferred.

The Hudson River Valley Greenway has funded a $10,000 grant to support the
coordinator position, with additional funds for expenses available. Hourly
compensation will be commensurate with experience. The coordinator is
expected to start as soon as possible, preferably in June 2000.

To apply, please send a resume, cover letter explaining your qualifications
and interest in the position, contact information for at least three
professional references and a writing sample. While the deadline is May
30th, applications received after that date will be considered if the
position is still open.

The Regional Farm and Food Project is a not-for-profit organization founded
in 1996. Through education, community development, and organizing, the
RFFP promotes new opportunities for family-scale agriculture, which are
good for the land and build stronger connections between farmers and the
public.
