Rooted in Community 2000
Harvesting the Power of Youth
July 28-30
Marin Headlands, San Francisco
After hosting the first national youth conference with ACGA last year in Boston, The Food Project is partnering with SLUG, ACGA, and Literacy for
Environmental Justice to sponsor the second Rooted in Community conference
this summer in San Francisco. The event will bring together youth and adults from around the
country who are involved in urban agriculture, community gardening and food
systems issues.
A uniquely youth-driven event, Rooted in Community 2000: Harvesting the
Power of Youth will feature workshops, panel discussions and site visits
organized and co-facilitated by youth around themes of leadership
development sustainable food systems and food security, networking, and
national movement building.
Throughout the weekend conference participants will be challenged to expand
their understanding of ecological sustainability and to build an active and
organized network around food systems and food security.
The conference costs are $85 for youth (ages 15-22)and $150 for adults, and
some scholarships are available. These registration fees include all
conference materials, food, lodging, and transportation during the event.
