Howdy, all--
Thought ye of a quantitative mindset--or perhaps those of you looking for a
new .sig file--might enjoy these factoids. From the the current (May 2000)
issue of the Harper's Index.
Percentage change since 1997 in direct government payments to U.S.
farmers: +200
Percentage change since then in total farm income, government payments
included: -1
Average amount of revenue per acre generated by a U.S. farm of fewer than
ten acres: $1,902.50
Average revenue per acre generated by a farm of more than 2,000 acres: $21.40
The source is given as USDA, with no more detail than that.
By the way, the above ratio of teeny farm to huge farm revenue per acre
works out to 88.9018691588785046728971962616822 to 1.

Can someone explain to me why destroying years of agricultural research
is a terrorist crime, while destroying billions of years of evolutionary
research
is Progress???????
