It looks like we need some people to weigh in so sustainable agriculture and family farms remain part of the mission statement in Minnesota.
Anybody got any more details on this?
Best wishes,

Subject: Land Stewardship not Land Grant Mission
Dear Land Stewardship Project (LSP) friend:
The Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture (MISA) is in
serious trouble. Its executive director, Don Wyse, was forced to
resign in early April by Charles Muscoplat, Dean of the College
of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences. This action was
taken by Muscoplat without consulting the MISA Board of Directors.
The Board's bylaws specifically disallow such action. In addition,
Muscoplat is planning on slashing MISA's budget so significantly
that there is a very good chance this respected link beween farmers
and the University will cease to exist.
MISA was started by LSP and other members of the Sustainers Coalition
in 1992 as a way to help the University of Minnesota be more responsive
to the needs of farmers. It is respected nationally for the impact it
has already had on sustainable agriculture. It is truly the land grant
mission in action.
Muscoplat, as well as University of Minnesota President Mark Yudof,
have received hundreds of e-mails protesting actions that undermine
MISA. We need to generate hundreds more responses (e-mails, calls,
letters) if we are to save this critical sustainable agriculture
resource. Members of the Minnesota Board of Regents as well as the
Legislature are starting to take notice.
Please check out http://www.landstewardshipproject.org for information
on how you can take a moment and have your voice heard. Now is the
time to act.
Thank you.
