News Advisory:

WHAT:
News conference calling for congressional investigation of the
Farm Bureau.

WHEN:
Tuesday, April 11
10 a.m.

WHERE:
Room 283
Hall of the States
444 North Capitol St., N.W.
Washington, D.C.

WHO:
-- Bill Christison, president, National Family Farm Coalition
-- Frank Kloucek, South Dakota state senator
-- Chris Peterson, Iowa farmer, Farm Bureau county farm
director
-- Roger Schlickeisen, president, Defenders of Wildlife

WHY:
On the heels of Sunday's "60 Minutes" investigation,
and a two-year examination of the Farm Bureau by Defenders of
Wildlife that resulted in a just-released white paper titled Amber
Waves of Gain, more than 180 organizations have joined together to
demand a congressional investigation of the influential lobbying
group, which bills itself to Congress as the Voice of America's
family farmers when, in reality, it is advocating a wide-ranging
agenda that hurts rather helps family farmers.

NOTE: This event is open to credentialed press only and
identification will be checked at the door. Breakfast will be
served, and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The white paper, Amber Waves of Gain, will be distributed to
the media at the news conference.
