Aprueba Senado ley sobre transgénicos
CNI en Línea.- El Senado de la República aprobó por unanimidad el dictamen para
modificar la Ley de Salud a fin de incorporar de manera explícita en el etiquetado dealimentos la leyenda que precise si son transgénicos, o bien elaborados con productos de ese tipo.
Durante la sesión del Senado también se determinó que los alimentos elaborados con un producto manipulado deberán indicar el tipo de gen utilizado, con el objeto de mantener a la población informadasobre la composición esos productos modificados.
La determinación expone que los descubrimientos recientes en materia de biología molecular obligan a que el marco regulatorio se actualice a la misma velocidad y precisión de esos avances científicos.
A nombre de las comisiones unidas, Samuel Aguilar Solís explicó que el ordenamiento da certidumbre, coadyuva a la protección de la salud y expresa el compromiso del Poder Legislativo para que no se rebase el marco jurídico nacional ante los avances científicos 30/03/00

It is peculiar to notice that the news did no received a lot of air and that the law was approved unanimously. I guess this reflects the level of awareness and interest that preavails in Mexico re this issue. But I am sure it will bring about good results if we all use it to inform and educate the public.
