Our first organic research position is now advertized and we are looking for
applicants

RESEARCH HORTICULTURIST/AGRONOMIST, GS-11/12. U.S. Department of
Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Agricultural Research
Station, Salinas, California, is seeking a highly motivated, creative
individual with a background in production horticulture or agronomy to
conduct research on organic production of vegetables. Emphasis is on the
development of organic farming practices suited for large-scale
vegetable production. Primary objectives include, but are not limited
to: 1. Efficiency of organic N sources; 2. Efficient means of increasing
soil organic matter; 3. Crop rotational schemes; 4. Cover cropping; 5.
Effects of rotation, cover crop, and compost treatments on soil organic
matter build-up and quality, soil fertility, nitrogen leaching, water u
se efficiency, tilth, disease incidence, yield, and quality of the
harvested product; and 6. Economic analyses of these treatments. The
incumbent is also expected to facilitate teamwork and develop
collaborative relationships with colleagues. Must be a U.S. citizen. A
Ph.D. is highly desirable in horticulture or agronomy. State-of-the-art
knowledge of modern research methods in horticulture or agronomy, and
whole plant physiology is required. Salary is commensurate with
qualifications and experience ($41,834 - $65,179 per annum). For general
