GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP
IN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
AT NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY
RESEARCH ASSISTANT: North Carolina State University, Horticultural
Sciences Dept., is seeking an M.S. or Ph.D. candidate to work on the
greenhouse vegetable cropping component of a bioremediation systems
project. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated graduate student
interested in sustainable agriculture to work in a cooperative research
project with a grower and with cooperators in the Depts. of Biological
and Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural and Resource Economics at
NCSU as well as the School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill. This
project is part of an innovative, integrated farming plan, involving
reuse of many farm outputs normally considered as waste, such as CO2.
The student in this assistantship will address the horticultural
components of the project, but considerable flexibility exists as to the
research focus. There is also some flexibility in start date, but
candidate should be on campus but no later than August 1, 2000. Stipend
is $15,000 per year and includes in/out-of-state tuition waivers and
medical insurance. Qualifications include either an MS, BS or BA degree
in horticulture, agriculture or biology. Selection will be based on
academic achievement, GRE scores, academic and/or work experience,
letters of reference, and a personal letter describing goals and
