Many of you have noted that one problem is that "organic" can be interpreted and
misinterpreted (and misused) in many ways (at least until some legislation is
passed). Other "eco-labeling" can be misused, or is confusing to the consumer.
What's more, there's nothing to prevent industrial ag from co-opting "organic,"
IPM, and all similar terms,
and underpricing small farmers and driving them out of business. I'd be
interested to know what you think about "locally grown" as a key selling point,
an unassailable niche market, and a comforting, easily understood concept with
high appeal to consumers.
