Position Announcement - Western SAWG Coordinator
The Western Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (Western SAWG) seeks a
half to 3/4-time coordinator for its 40-member regional grassroots
network. The Coordinator will be responsible for organizing nonprofit,
community-based groups from the southwest, Rocky Mountains, northwest
and western Canada to work on a range of regional and national
sustainable agriculture issues.
Specific responsibilities of the Western SAWG Coordinator:
· Coordinate fundraising for the network
· Maintain membership database, network list serve and webpage
· Disseminate action alerts
· Coordinate the recruitment of new membership
· Promote member groups networking through joint projects
· Organize the annual regional membership meeting
· Organize Steering Committee meetings and conference calls
· Prepare quarterly newsletter and a quarterly member update
· Coordinate SAWG task forces
· Serve as the SAWG contact person for Sustainable Agriculture Research
and Education (SARE) program
· Work with the SAWG representative to the National Campaign for
Sustainable Agriculture Steering Committee to inform the rest of the
network of Campaign activities
· Work with the Steering Committee to initiate regional policy workshops
throughout the region
· Recruit and supervise volunteers and interns
· Implement foundation grants. Write progress and final reports to
funders and submit quarterly reports to the Steering Committee
We are looking for someone with excellent grassroots organizing,
networking and communication skills as well as knowledge of agriculture
and food issues. We seek someone who has a commitment to improving the
agricultural and food system. Experience in organizing and with the
Western SAWG is preferable. E-mail and internet capability is
required. Applicants should possess strong interpersonal skills, take
initiative, and be able to work independently.
Location within the western region is flexible, but the coordinator must
be able to cost effectively work with network members throughout the
region. A computer workstation and fax machine is available. The
beginning salary range is $1,100-1,500 per month, with opportunity for
increases depending on fundraising results.
