Position Announcement
Director of Resource Development
Invigorate the development operation of a mid-size ($2.0 million)
non-profit organization working at the intersection of economic,
environmental, and social equity issues. The position offers the
opportunity to create a comprehensive major gifts program for an
organization that will grow over the next five years. This position also
involves managing foundation contacts and communication, with proposal
development and presentation largely handled by others. This position
offers abundant opportunities to build new skills and broaden development
expertise.
The Director of Resource Development will report to the Executive Director
and work with the senior management team as well as the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities include:
1. creating and maturing an innovative major gifts program that engages
donors in the ideas and policies under development at RP;
2. organizing donor meetings and events, providing briefings and developing
strategies for each;
3. managing the foundation calendar and the timeliness of proposal
submissions, meetings and reports;
4. managing the foundation and donor proposal development process in
coordination with the Program Directors;
5. maintaining accurate and accessible development files and records for
foundation and major donor fundraising;
6. developing a program for effective donor communication and outreach;
7. supporting the Board Chair and the Executive Director in their
communications and meetings with the Board of Directors;
8. researching and cultivating relationships with donor prospects.
Qualifications should include:
- at least three years' experience in non-profit development or a similar
business development department. Experience working with individuals with
significant wealth is called for;
- excellent writing skills and an ease in writing routine communications;
- comfort in speaking before groups and meeting prestigious people;
- knowledge of and personal interest in environment, social equity, or
economic issues;
- comfortable telephone style and fearlessness in making calls to
influential people. A strong candidate will bring to the organization a
professional network of colleagues in the field;
- desire to acquire new skills and expand development expertise;
- experience working closely with a demanding supervisor who expects
efficiency, accuracy and effective systems;
- ability to convene and facilitate internal meetings, develop timelines,
and follow through on commitments.
- good judgement in taking initiative and handling sensitive relationships;
- experience in event planning;
- desire to grow professionally and make a mark on an important organization.
