Wisconsin, grooviest of states

Howdy, all--

Eric asked:

>Why is Wisconson, that grooviest of states, donating to these vermin [see
>'Chairman's Circle']?

Why, Eric, I thought that part of my adoration of Wisconsin was always that
it was among the very least grooviest of states. But I think you're right.
When I moved to San Francisco, I asked Darth Cheezer (who was helping me w/
my apartment hunting) what the most un-Hip 'hood in the city was, according
to his ex-Cheezer Tres Hip CyberDroid friends...and I settled there (way
lower far outer Sunset District, they said).

That lack of Hip is what makes Wisconsin groove. :^)

One of the grooves that runs deeply in Wisconsin is a
rather...bifurcated...quality

Wisconsin brought us both Fighting Bob LaFollette...and Joe McCarthy.

Wisconsin produced both Gaylord Nelson--the founder of Earth Day--and Paul
Weyrich--the founder of the Heritage Foundation and "Free Congress."

Wisconsin's Muse engendered both Jerry Harrison (of Talking Heads) and
Liberace.

TV shows set in Wisconsin (supposedly)? Picket Fences...and Laverne and
Shirley.

Wash down your top-notch farmstead chevre or gouda or brie--or your Oscar
Mayer Lunchables--with New Glarus Solstice beer...or the rankest
kidney-flushing Milwaukee swill.

Worker's compensation (first in the nation) and W2--the Machiavellian
anti-poor-women-and-children "welfare reform" that Dickens himself couldn't
have imagined.

Management intensive rotational grazing (well, in my own view of the
cosmos. :^) and the Cray supercomputer.

The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile...and the Harley-Davidson "motorcycle."

And so on.

So finding out that there are Averistas among the Cheezers--who may, for
all we know, be writing Dennis checks with one hand and WRDC with the
other.... Nah. Don't surprise me none.
