Program Director, Organizational
Alternatives for Agricultural Producers
Position Description: Provide leadership for
the organizational alternatives component of the UM value added agriculture
program. The position will provide outreach educational-efforts targeted at
independent producers seeking assistance in organizing themselves to better
compete in the global agricultural economy of the 21st Century. Of
particular interest are groups of producers who are seeking to incorporate a
"value added" dimension into their overall business strategy.
Activities envisioned include some/all of
the following:
* Develop training/in-service programs
for regional extension staff.
* Conduct conferences and workshops for
producers regarding organizational design on topics such as market
feasibility, business plans and organizational feasibility.
* Facilitate organizational meetings of
producers seeking to establish value added enterprises.
* Conduct seminars regarding producer
owned and controlled organizational design for Missouri based
professionals including attorneys, accountants.
* Coordinate/lead comprehensive response
team in providing technical assistance to Missouri producers on
organizational design and innovation.
* Serve as a one stop clearinghouse for
producers requesting more information on
organizational options. As a clearinghouse,
the director will provide materials, referrals or
assign a response team.
* Coordinate/promote collaboration among
University research, teaching and extension
resources to provide a comprehensive program
in support of organizational innovation
related to value added agriculture.
* Conduct study tours to other states,
countries to provide Missouri producers with opportunities to observe and
interact with a variety of producer owned and controlled
organizational models.
* Serve as a liaison with government and
private programs seeking to expand organizational opportunities for Missouri
producers.
* Direct development of written materials
as needed to support organizational innovations.
Qualifications: Minimum: Masters degree in
agricultural economics business or closely related field or an advanced
degree (e.g., JD) in a related discipline/field of study. Demonstrated
capacity to work effectively with a broad spectrum of people. Demonstrated
teaching skills.
Desired: Experience and/or formal
credentials in:
Agribusiness management
Producer owned and controlled firm
Business law especially those statutes
involving cooperatives
Demonstrated communication skills
Demonstrated interpersonal skills
The occupant of this position will work
closely with the agribusiness management faculty in the Department of
Agricultural Economics especially the Partridge Chair of Cooperative
Leadership and simultaneously collaborate
with the rest of the Value Added Agriculture team.
