Farming Internships Available

>From the Ground Up CSA is a cooperative effort between the Chesapeake Bay
Foundation and the Capital Area Food BAnk to sustainably grow healthy
vegetables
for the metro DC area. The veggies are distributed to a 300 member CSA, a
small
farmer's market in Anacostia (Southeast DC) and donations to the Food Bank.
 We
are currently looking for 2-3 interns to help operate our 20 acre vegetable
operation. Key aspects of our growing include: no-till, permanent raised
beds,
season extension and integrated pest management.
Interns will:
Work between 45 and 50 hours/week in all kinds of weather under challenging
time
constraints
Participate in all aspects of vegetable production inc. greenhouse work,
seeding
and transplanting, mulching, cultivation, harvesting and distribution.
Learn the basic issues and challenges facing sustainable and organic ag
Learn various methods and strategies of growing vegetables organically
Learn to use farming tools both hand and mechanical
Visit other farms depending on length of internship
Receive a stipend of $1000/mo which includes $200/mo for off-farm housing,
which
we will help you locate. At this time we cannot offer on-farm housing.

Internships are between May and November and anyone seriously interested in
