Guest sought - Live Talk Radio program for Monday, February 28

Topic: Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs): The Implications for
Agriculture

Guests:
Alex Avery, Director of Research and Education, Center for Global Food
Issues. Alex represented the CGFI at the United Nations World Food
Summit in Rome in 1996. He is co-author of the Hudson Institute briefing
paper Farming to Sustain the Environment, which addresses issues of
agricultural sustainability from a practical and global perspective.
Alex is the son of Dennis Avery, and will be taking the "pro-GMO"
stance. Additional background info at: http://www.cgfi.com/

_____________ Your name could be here. We are looking for a guest to
join us by telephone with an opposing viewpoint on GM issues.

Host: Jeff Ishee, Farm Director, WSVA, News Radio 550.

Program format: This will be a one hour talk radio program broadcast
live on Monday, February 28 between 11:00 a.m. and noon. WSVA is
consistently ranked in the top ten for "news talk" stations in North
America, and is currently ranked number 2. Our signal reaches well into
the Washington D.C. market, and covers approx. 1/3 of Virginia and 1/3
of West Virginia. The program is called "Valley Farm Forum," and we
discuss any issue that may be of importance to our agricultural
community.

Program content: After a brief introduction of our guests, we will first
define for our audience what genetically modified organisms are and talk
a bit about "where we are today" in biotech agriculture. I want to
stress that this is not a formal debate. It is also not a "food fight"
Jerry Springer type of program. It is designed to be a serious, yet
candid conversation between two people who are both "pro-agriculture"
but have differing views on practices and policies. In the second half
of the hour, we will open the phone lines for calls from our listening
audience.
Alex lives near the station and will be joining the host in the studio.
If you live near the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, you will be welcomed
as a studio guest also. Otherwise, we invite you to join us by telephone
(we pay for the call obviously, and will establish contact with you at
11:00 am on Monday the 28th.)

Details: Contact Jeff Ishee as soon as possible to recommend a guest.
Station management will consider all submissions, and make a final
decision by February 24.

Thank you,

Jeff Ishee
