In Europe we have at the moment a revision going on of the Directive that
regulates the
release of gmo's in the environment: Dir. 90/220. From what I understand there
is no substantial change in the way gmo's are assessed. The assessments anyway
are not completely similar in the member states, with some regulators being
more lacks than others. As it looks right now, two things at least are very
worrying, one concerns contamination of neigbouring fields, nothing will be
arranged, the other is a simplified procedure for gmo's that are considered
sufficiently known.
