The diseases that would most likely lead to skin sores have to do with
environmental stress factors such as over-crowding and mismanagement of
bedding. In a backyard system that you envision these problems usually don't
occur. I encourage you to go ahead with a poultry flock of your own this
year. One place to get valuable information is on the pasturepoultry@onelist
news group. You can access it through www.onelist.com. Another useful list
for you is the Market Farming list at market-farming@franklin.oit.unc.edu
