RE: WW: Ag Biotech Briefing

Greetings All,

This is interesting news. I have a flyer for the upcoming Ag-BioTech World
Forum, in Las Vegas(!) on FEb 28-March 1. Subheading is "New Business
Strategies for a Fast-Changing Industry."

Featured speakers are:
Jerry Caulder, CEO, Akkadix
Dan Glickman, Secretary USDA
Terry Medley, Biotech Regulatory and External Affairs Director, Dupont Ag
Enterprise
Michael Phillips, Exec. Dir of Biotech Industry Organization
Bill Rouse, President of Cargill Seed
Michael Ruff, Deputy Asst. Administrator, Technology Transfer, ARS, USDA.

An excerpt from page one promotion:
"Almost overnight, that seemingly unlimited euphoria ["of less production
costs, less chemical usage, higher yields, higher quality - plus increased
profits"] has turned into chaos and confusion as the industry attempts to
pull back and regroup from worldwide mounting challenges. The long sought
after Identity Preserved ag production system arrived in a hurry - years
ahead of schedule. But, in an incredible reversal of fortunes, it's the
non-GM crops that may garner the premiums.

"That's why AgBiotech World Forum 2000 may be the most important agbiotech
conference ever held in the short history of this new industry. It's the
first conference to dig deeply into the causes of these remarkable changes,
and take an expert, practical look at the challenges, and many
opportunities....that lie ahead."

Tuesday FEb 29th at 12:45pm has a Tech Transfer "event" where people have a
"....chance to meet personally with USDA, BIO,....and other technology
developers to discuss specific new technology licensing opportunities that
may be profitable for your company!"

I don't know about you all, but this really scares the heck out of me. They
have a website,
www.ibcusa.com/2386

I think this is yet another serious heads-up, and a sign of how worried Big
Ag really is about losing their control of market share - and just losing
control period.
