Are you up on this?
What a whirlwind of activity and response concerning organics...
The OTA has responded fairly to the ABC 20/20 show Fri Feb 4th.
Please see: http://www.ota.com/food_safety_release.htm
As this all makes sense, I wonder if the OTA is in a position to sue for
slander and complete misrepresentation. The interview, no doubt, was
shortened to present a biased view.
I would, for once, like to see a court case much like when Oprah and
Howard Lymon spoke fairly on the beef industry. No offense to those who
do eat meat or organic meat or any produce that is not organically
grown. As a grower, I personally know how hard it is to beat the
diseases, insects, deer, bird and rodents but I do what I do AND I would
never resort to low tactics such as presenting info with low sampling
techniques or a blatant misrepresentation such as how much manure is
used by whom. Or forgetting that not all e-coli is harmful, some is
beneficial, etc.
Yes the big agri-business is running trepid waters today when so many
folks hit upon a desire for insured safety and while there are no long
term studies. I appreciate the European Market for holding off and
rejecting until such studies deem safe.
And moreover, without full discloser of who funds studies involving
organic or genetic or whatever, I rarely read the headlines. Sure
McDonalds uses genetically modified potatoes but not in Europe, it is
the "law" there while Americans remain puppets AS LONG AS WE REMAIN
SILENT!
The sadness is worsened in the countries where American banned
pesticides are dumped. Equally sick is when America buys back the
produce and therefore bypasses the American laws concerning pesticide
use (does NAFTA ring a bell?) Is DDT is still present?
