Isles Community Farm

The Isles Community Farm located near Trenton, NJ is seeking enthusiastic
individuals to help us throughout the 2000 growing season. As a community
food project funded by the USDA, we strive to increase the quantity of fresh
organic produce being delivered to the city of Trenton, help kids establish
their own farmstands, and educate youth and adults in agriculture and
environmental issues.

2 positions are available: Experience preferred but not required.
Community Farm Assistant - March - October
Community Farm Assistant / Educator - March - September (flexible start date)

Both Community Farm Assistants work along with the Production Manager and
Farm Manager. They report directly to the Production Manager and are
involved in all aspects of crop production at the farm including vegetables,
cutting flowers, herbs, and perennials. Job roles are diverse and, depending
upon skill level, assistants may also be involved in marketing, public
relations, farmstand operations. Both assistants will be introduced to the
issues surrounding food security within urban settings as well as Isles other
programs and will serve as ambassadors for the organization.

Duties and responsibilities include the following but are not limited to
them:
Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be willing to work in cold,
hot, or rainy weather. Field work will begin early in the morning during hot
weather.

· Field preparation, use of power tools such as tillers, mowers, weed wackers.
· Fencing and maintenance
· Greenhouse seedling production (herbs, vegetables, flowers, perennials)
· Field planting and seeding
· Irrigation
· Organic Pest Management within the field and greenhouse
· Weed Control
· Tool maintenance
· Harvesting, washing, and packaging of crops
· Assisting in deliveries, pickups, and CSA distribution
· Instruction and supervision of volunteers
· Record keeping and photography

Assistant / Educator: One assistant will be responsible for leading farm
tours and presenting educational programs on farming and the related topics
described above several times a week. The remainder of time (over 1/2 the
week) will be spent performing the full range of farm duties. The Educator
must be outgoing, articulate, and willing to work with people of diverse ages
and backgrounds. Occasional Saturday and evening events are scheduled.
Start date is flexible - we are willing to accommodate school schedules.
Teaching experience is preferred but not required.
