Bill,
Mike Duffy of Iowa State University wrote a nice short summary of the
economics of raising GM corn and soybeans versus conventionally bred corn
and soybeans in Iowa. One factor was that yields for GM soybeans were
slightly lower than for conventional beans and that yields for Bt corn were
higher than for conventional seed. You can access the article through our
web page at http://extension.agron.iastate.edu/sustag//. Click on the
second item in the "What's New" box. I should note that the yield
differences were from sample averages, not from side by side comparisons.
