Seeking additional funding for Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program
Please help support this effort and contact as many of your legislators as
you can. Let Duane Perry (215-568-0830, x11; duane@libertynet.org) or John
Weidman (215 339 -0900 x251; JWeidman@PHILABUNDANCE.ORG) know what response
you get. If you would like additional background information, please contact
Duane Perry. Thanks!
The Food Resources Alliance (Farmers' Market Trust, Philabundance and
SHARE), PA Hunger Action Center, RISA, (your name can be added here) are
requesting $500,000 in funding to be added to the Farmers Market Nutrition
Program to be used for a Seniors FMNP in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. We
request the funds come from the general fund and that they be a continuing
appropriation for 2 years. The program would make $20 vouchers available to
low income seniors, redeemable at farmers' markets. This program would
expand the existing pilot program that is running successfully in Chester
and Sharon. This proposal has the support of the Philadelphia Corporation
for Aging.
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is already thinking about
expanding the program to the cities of Erie, Williamsport, Lancaster and
Pottsville.
