This is an initial notice of a work in progress. We hope that you will
communicate this to others too. The press release is in preparation as
are
the plans. Matt Russell from NCRLC (community organizer) will be
co-ordinating our joint efforts as he did for the Rural Unity Day
rallies.

What? Rally for Rural America
When? March 20-21, 2000
Who? coalition of farm, labor, churches, others
Where? Washington, DC
Why? Rural America not sharing economic spotlight: health care trends
are
disasterious, utility de-regulation devastating, family farmers
suffering,
environmental issues significant, main street businesses losing, capital
investment lacking. There are a wide number of issues demonstrating a
need
for rural America to awaken, arise, advocate.

The event is being organized by a broad group of organizations concerned
that
rural America has been left behind during this time of record
prosperity. The
faith community is participating in organizing and promoting the rally.

The centerpiece of the gathering will be a noon rally at the U.S.
Capitol on
Tuesday, March 21. That morning a prayer breakfast will be held near
Capitol
Hill. On Monday, March 20, a farmer's share luncheon will be held to
highlight the small returns farmers receive on the products they grow. A
town
hall meeting on the rural crisis is expected to follow that afternoon.

Watch for additional details to be released in the coming weeks. We're
joining it with our Green Ribbon Campaign

For the Rural Church Network, this comes just after the planned meeting
in
Dubuque.
