Hi Steve! I'm not Greg, but I'll give you my thoughts on this.
As Michelle alluded to in her post, there is definitely a split starting in
FB! There appears to be a large number of members who feel somewhat misled,
while others feel flat out sold-out. The environment was ripe for change!
Unfortunately, I don't know much about Stallman, the new AFBF Pres. I do
know that he was thought quite highly of in Texas though! (He was formerly
the Texas FB pres.) I'm sure that there will be speculation that he won the
election, at least in part, because people didn't want Kleckner back in
office rather than because they really wanted Stallman. I have a friend
that was a voting delegate and he said that, after he listened to each
candidate give their brief little speech, there was no way that he could not
vote for Stallman (even though our state FB pres. had "suggested" that he
vote for Kleckner.)
After listening to Kleckner's annual address, I was very disappointed, to
say the least. He made some comments that I found to be very inappropriate
regarding Europeans and environmentalists. He left me feeling as though he
was more concerned about promoting GMO's and the interests of the large ag.
companies than he was about dealing with the issues facing producers today
(market access, mergers, commodity prices, etc.)
That's my 2 cents on the matter!
Have a good evening,
Lei Gunthorp
